In August of 2022 Pastor Lloyd somehow became aware that Old Bridge BOE was having a public meeting on short notice to provide a presentation of the new State LGBTQ Curriculum guidance and asked a staff member to attend. A couple others were then asked to come along. It was found out later that this meeting was intended to be a low-profile event to "check the box" of public transparency but that the BOE was already expected to go along with the state guidance and approve it at the meeting scheduled for the VERY NEXT night. Miraculously that is not what happened.
An unprecedented 50 to 75 people had gotten the word and made it to the meeting (many finding out that very afternoon). After the Assistant Superintendent finished his presentation, several people began to ask questions and provide testimony objecting to the over-sexualization and indoctrination of CHILDREN through this curriculum. One amazing former teacher stood up and read a "subjective truth lesson" right out of the guidance (Red Crayon, Blue Crayon) for SECOND GRADERS. Others brought more completely unacceptable content to the Board's attention.
The room became quite contentious to the point the police were called. But at the end of the night, the Board Members had heard enough and made a motion to postpone the vote for one month to further investigate and consider their options. What the administrators had planned (quietly bring this outrageous curriculum into the Old Bridge Schools) was foiled by "a few good people" who did SOMETHING. After the meeting, one of the conservative Members thanked me profusely and shared that it would have been adopted without question the following night had we not come to Speak Up and represent our values and convictions.
A couple months later, after additional meetings that culminated in over 200 people in the High School Auditorium, the BOE voted down the LGBTQ and gender-neutral language curriculum, to keep it out of Old Bridge K - 8 schools. Thanks to Pastor Lloyd's discernment, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, followed by concerned citizens getting up and speaking up, thousands of impressionable OB kids have been spared from this very bad curriculum for the last two school years. That was the genesis of the Speak Up Ministry where a small but growing group of people are getting involved and "Speaking UP for those who can not speak for themselves" Proverbs 31:8-9.
