Without giving too much information, my friend's teenage son had abscesses that required prompt surgery (at risk for sepsis if they waited too long). They expected that the procedure would have taken out a large portion of his intestine, and he would need, at the very least, a temporary colostomy (with the possibility of it being long term). FIVE doctors all agreed that it wouldn't go away without drainage, and it wasn't possible to drain due to location, so it looked like the surgery was inevitable. In the process of waiting for a second opinion, he had a rescan to check the status, and the mass was completely gone!
