I had been attending church and serving for a couple of years. I always prayed to be used of God but wanted it on my own terms.

One day, during my lunch hour, God put my desire to the test. I was getting gas and a prostitute walked by. She often worked the street in front of work so I didn’t give it a second thought.

As she passed within 10 feet of me, I clearly heard God’s voice boom in my ears, “Talk to her!” I did nothing.

God repeated - “Talk to her!” It was a clear command for me to share Christ’s love with her. Yet, I still did not obey. She went upon her way and I lost the privilege to represent the Lord to his lost daughter.

I tried to chase the shame of disobedience with self praise. After all, I was “a good guy” and “served in church” but that was just a feeble attempt to justify my actions.

The Spirit prompted me to repent so I begged the Lord for another chance. In His mercy, God allowed me to speak to the same woman in another encounter, months later.

Our Lord gives us so much. He simply asks us for obedience. What is God asking you to do? Pray for strength, continuous guidance and do it! Doubts? God qualifies those that are willing.

“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” 1 Samuel 15:22

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
