Jer 8:8-9:26 | PS 78:32-55 | Prov 24:27 | Col 3:1-17

In 1898, the “smartest man” ever born, William James Sidis, with an IQ of between 250 - 300 (average IQ 100), was born, even scoring 100 points above Albert Einstein. Currently, the strongest man in the world is Zydrunas Savickas, who can lift a 460lb wooden log. Currently the richest man in the world is Elon Musk, with a net worth of $228 billion. How hard do people strive to attain this ranking? What does it all really mean? Our time on earth is finite. Why would anyone seek this over being submitted to the God of the universe, to be His child, under His wing, desiring His wisdom, searching for riches which no man can take away?

We read in Jeremiah 9:23-24, “ Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord”. How does this look in real time? We read David confronting Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:45-46, “Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you…”. We read of Peter in his encounter with the lame man in Acts 3:6-7, “Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.”

We honestly need to assess our priorities and our goals in life. Seeking all that the world has to offer might give you some momentary acclaim and pleasures. But the truth is they can’t and they won’t last. The other truth is they will never satisfy. Or you can seek Christ, and submit to His Lordship. You might never make it into any Who’s Who list, but you will be known and loved by our God who has limitless power and wisdom. You will be loved unlike any person could ever love you. Say Yes to Jesus, and glory in this relationship, and enjoy a life of service as you exalt Him, as He alone deserves.
